Shelter Fundamentals v2 is a basic level course that introduces the roles and responsibilities for opening, operating, and closing a shelter during a disaster.  The course focuses on what new shelter workers need to know to work in a shelter.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify client needs
  • Describe different types of shelters
  • Identify how a shelter is structured and operates
  • Explain the activities and tasks that take place in shelters

In addition, we will cover winter storm preparation, including helping at a sandbag station and storm drain management.

Session will be taught at Menlo Park Fire District's facility located in East Palo Alto.  The address and additional information will be sent to registered participants prior to the class.

Free to those
age 18-years-old and over who live or work in Atherton, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Unincorporated Menlo Park, as well as our neighboring communities.
