General Disaster Preparedness Classes

We offer basic earthquake preparedness classes for groups small and large. See our Training and Events Calendar to see when our next class will be offered, or email CERT@MenloFireCERT.com to inquire about setting up a class for your group (business, community of faith, neighborhood association, school).

CERT Training

Become a CERT start with the CERT Basic Training course, offered throughout the year. (Dates are posted here.) You can also email cert@menlofirecert.com to be added to a mailing list so that you will receive notice about upcoming classes. You may sign up for our CERT Academy if you live or work within the Menlo Park Fire District jurisdiction (Menlo Park, Atherton, East Palo Alto, and portions of unincorporated San Mateo County including North Fair Oaks and West Selby).

CERT Continuing Education

We offer several forms of continuing education for CERTS. All of the opportunities will be listed in our Training and Event Calendar as they become available.

Exercises are simulated disasters or emergency situations that take place out-of-doors, often in MPFD neighborhoods. Some may be sponsored by the MPFD, while others may be led by your neighborhood CERT program.
Special classes are offered periodically to take a deeper look at specific topics of interest to CERTs, such as advanced first aid and triage, pet preparedness, or flood response. Many classes will included a "tabletop exercise" in which a scenario is presented to the class and you are asked to play the role of various people ranging from disaster victims to members of the CERT command team.
Online courses are offered through the Federal Emergency Response Administration (FEMA) and other federal agencies. A list of courses may be found on our website.
Online videos are created by a variety of state and federal agencies that focus on topics of interest to CERTs. A curated list of videos may be found on our website.
